We accept. This team has a real shot, and adding a top 4 D to our loaded defense only helps that

Clutterbuck has negative value along with Mayfield. NYI is a contending team meaning this pick will be low.
The retention just throws it overboard.
Gonna be a reject from me.

I'm not sure how Mayfield has negative value. He's signed forever at 1.45M, and is still young. I assume Minny sees value in him, as you can turn him into a top 4 guy making less than 1.5M quite easily. Add in a 1st, 3rd and 5th, you have a solid return for an 84 overall on a rebuilding team. 1st rounders don't lose value just because they are 20+ lol
Clutterbuck for Hemsky is a cap dump for me, to make the rest of the deal work, along with the retention.
This is a typical deal that you see in real life.

Clutterbuck's contract is just so bad. Mayfield and the picks for Spurgeon with a retention is fair. Clutterbuck is a huge negative to the trade. A garbage contract for 4 more years hurts his value a ton.
I'm gonna reject.

He's gonna have the cap space available anyway, and depending on just how much he wants to sell off, it might actually help him reach the cap floor.

I want a first to help with my rebuild and this was the price. I plan on drafting high for another season or two. Clutterbuck isn't going to hurt me too bad.

That first will not be anything special. Clutterbuck's value on top of the retention makes this trade too lopsided.

They aren't garbage just because they will be in the 20's. It was already explained that Clutterbuck & the retention is to make the deal work cap wise. The base of the deal is Spurgeon for Mayfield and the picks. We are micro-managing here.

When Clutterbuck is gonna be on their roster for the next 4 seasons, I'm not gonna let it pass. If it was one or two seasons, okay. But this is for 4 seasons.

Yes. 4 seasons where he won't need the cap space because he will be rebuilding, and should he need it, he can buy Clutterbuck out, and only lose 1.1M. We all agree Clutterbuck has a bad contract. But Minny has said he's okay with taking it, and it's because he is dumping salary like crazy. We are meant to prevent outragous deals. Not reject a deal because you personally think it is 1 year too long to take on. That is for Minny to decide. Also, it has 3 more seasons left, it's not like it is an 8 year deal or something lol I don't even want to trade Clutterbuck. I brought Matt Martin back because I loved the idea of reuiniting the "best 4th line in hockey", and it has worked. It's only there because we need salaries to even up.
