This is kind of gross but I guess on paper it’s kind of fair. Flames will definitely regret this though none of the things he’s getting back will be as good as Monahan ever. Remember back in the day when an 89 and 80 for and 85 and 84 would easily get accepted because of the overalls equaling out man have times ever changed. Not really sure what flames is doing lol he’s in 1st place but tearing things apart everywhere

Lol so prospects and picks have no value anymore? I understand that Johnsson and Hyman wouldn’t equal Monahan but Robertson isn’t nothing and picks are still picks.

I’ll accept. It’s even or at least pretty close. I wouldn’t do this if I was Calgary but he can do what he wants with his team.

I would like to hear thehockeyist 's thinking on this deal. You've been moving a lot of your better players for depth, which is fine up to a certain point, but theres only so much ice time to go around; at a certain point having too many prospects makes it harder for them to develop because they never see the ice. Not to mention this leaves Sam Bennett as your top C.

Sam Bennett would be his only C, he needs to update his roster

Robertson is nothing right now until we see development upgrades. And, if you're actually as good as you THINK you are, with Monahan on your team, your picks aren't worth that much either. 🤷

Just to make this clear, I did ask Calgary what his plans were before even offering a deal to understand the direction he was trying to take his team. Sounded like he wanted a rebuild so I built a deal around Johnsson, Robertson and picks and added in Hyman and Jankowski to make up for value and cap differences.
Not to mention, Johnsson has been doing fairly well this season playing 2nd-3rd kind minutes. Think he could be fairly productive for Calgary and still grow.
And just so we’re clear, I’m not trying to argue here, just giving clarity to what went on behind the scenes. I came up with an offer that I believe to be fair value for a rebuilding team while not hurting my own long term plans (like including Kapanen as Cook suggested).

You can’t just say he’s worthless, he’s still developing. And picks are picks. Anything could happen. Obviously I would try to minimize my own risks with trading my picks but I’ve had that bite me in the ass before and I’m sure it’ll happen again some point in the future whether it’s now or later. I will say though, I am getting quite frustrated with people seeing my name and automatically thinking that I’m trying to hug somebody. I asked Calgary what his plans were and it sounded like he’s trying to rebuild so I made an offer that suited those plans.
