Calgary has 2M in cap space, he couldn't do this trade even if he wanted to. But yes this is a horrible trade for Detroit. Ok with your explanation of the trade that you added I am ok with this.

thehockeyist You know this trade puts you about 5m over the cap right? Detroit Red Wings GM since Murphy doesn't have a NMC/NTC you technically can trade him, but Player Rep will remember it and not sign you any top free agents any time soon. We have an unofficial "GM Reputation" thats affected by this sort of thing. Yeah I figured, but I had to once I realized the way my team is set up. Usually I wouldn't do a move like that but I was forced to under the circumstances |

I don’t like the retention for that long especially since this puts flames over the cap and gives wings a top 2 dman making nothing. Looks like this trade will be accepted anyway but wings would still be losing 6 million or so without the cap retainment
