To LW Clayton Keller PLY 88 (25) - 7.15M UFA 2029 [DET retains 1M full term] LW Kaapo Kakko PLY 84 (23) RFA rights C Kevin Hayes PWF 82 (33) - 4.5M UFA 2025 - NMC RD Alex Pietrangelo TWD 89 (34) - 8.8M UFA 2027 - NMC [DET retains 1.5M 2025]
To C Kent Johnson PLY 83 (21) - 2M RFA 2026 C Samu Salminen PLY 77 (21) (CAR APUs to 79) RFA rights CAR 2024 1ST (3rd overall) CAR 2025 2ND
Carolina and I are here to kick off the off-season with a blockbuster. He gets Keller at a 6.125M cap hit until 2029 to play with Aho and Svech; Kakko to play with Raymond and Necas; Pietrangelo as a needed RD upgrade and to help develop Hutson further; and Hayes as a depth center (mainly a cap dump though). I get some good prospects to help rebuild my roster and figure out a better game plan with more cap space available. Overall I think this deal is fair, and it definitely accomplishes goals for both teams.

Not sure what CAR is doing, this puts him over the cap by 4.15M w/ Kakko still needing an extension and needing to sign 2 more NHL Fwds, 1 NHL D and 1 NHL G

You must be looking at his cap hit from last season, because right now his cap hit is 61.45M--he just didn't update it on his roster. After this deal his cap hit would be 78.9M. That's plenty of space, wouldn't you think?

I can see why people say more has to go to DET... but they'll gain a great young prospect with that 3rd overall, that they can instantly slot into the lineup. Detroit also loses over 18M in cap space before having to extend Kakko...

Accept, and my cap ain’t updated i’ll have room i’m pretty sure Simple fix if you want people to stop mentioning your cap. CAR & DET update your rosters before posting a trade. Then you won't have anyone referring to your cap or roster. Neither roster is technically up to date

Trade should be rejected completely until these guys do the work to get there rosters updated. Until then this shouldn't even be considered as a trade

Cap updated - Without the Kakko signing it’s 10.5 in cap space

Both rosters are fine, so I'm not sure why there's such a fuss. Lol.

Both rosters are fine, so I'm not sure why there's such a fuss. Lol. I mean Cook has a point, rosters are fine NOW, but they weren't when it was posted. Lets just not make it a habit to do these things. It wastes a lot of energy, especially when a GM sees cap hits that are incorrect on a roster. Personally think this is a poor trade for CAR. Pietrangelo will only see downgrades next year onward, Keller only avoided a downgrade this past season cause his age was 24, and Kakko hasnt come into form at all. So giving away a top 5 rookie in Johnson, plus a top 3 pick who could easily be RD Avery, who would make a longterm partner for Hutson, doesn't really make sense to me. Not too mention Hayes has negative value. I'd rather have Hutosn-Foote and Slavin-Avery as my top 4 next year to maximize development of my defense, but what do I know. You guys are experienced GMs and both know what you want for your teams. The value is there, just don't think its a good trade for CAR.

Yeah I didn't realize CAR hadn't updated his cap before I posted. If I had realized I would have waited. Only thing I hadn't done was put my FAs at the top of the roster since I'm working on all my re-signs but I went ahead and did it after I saw the stuff about Carolina's cap. I wanted to get the trade posted ASAP though since it involved such a high pick in the draft--didn't want to hold that up
