Draft started before I could get this out but fuck it here it is
1. C Connor Bedard - PLY - 6'2 187lbs (R) (CAN) - Regina Pats (WHL) (-)
10-31-41 +4
Bedard led the rookie team in points, 6th in WJC in assists. Its Bedard, he’ll be a good top pick.
2. RD Niklas Talvikunnas - DFD - 6’4 203lbs (R) (FIN) - HPK (Liiga) (+3)
6-20-26 +5 122 HITS 32 TK
Talvikunnas is the guy I’m most bullish on. Big Right Defenceman who can put up points as a DFD, has size and can use it (2nd in hits WJC), and can defend (tied 1st in TK). I might be crazy putting him at #2, who I think whoever gets him is getting a winner.
3. RW Matvei Michkov - SNP - 5’10 159lbs (L) (RUS) - St Petersburg (MHL) (-1)
17-16-33 +9 202 shots
Somewhat disappointing WJC for him points-wise, but he still put the puck in the net. He’s a volume shooter, he’ll score big in the NHL.
4. RW Daniil But - PWF 6’4 198lbs (R) (RUS) - Loko-76 Yaroslavl (MHL) (+2)
14-25-39 +2 143 HITS 48 TK
Point producing power forward who hits a lot and can play defence. The system likes players like him.
5. C Kimo Gruber - PLY - 6’1 192lbs (L) (SUI) - Kloten U20 (U20-Elit) (+9)
14-26-40 -17
Playmaking center who put up points on a not-so-good World West Team. Would have an easier chance developing out of the NHL next season returning as their top C.
6. LW/C Zach Benson - PLY - 6’1 175lbs (L) (CAN) - Winnipeg Ice (WHL) (+2)
15-26-41 +10
Playmaker who can score. Better as a winger but can play C in a pinch. Might have benefitted stats-wise from playing on a high scoring WJC team
8. LW Quentin Musty - PWF - 6'2 203lbs (L) (USA) - Sudbury Wolves (OHL) (+5)
14-24-36
Poor man’s Daniil But. Shorter but has good size. Will throw the body around and put some points up in the process.
7. RW/LW Alex Ciernik - PLY - 5'10 172lbs (L) (SVK) - Södertälje SK (SHL) (+5)
9-25-34 -12
Another player who will benefit from a larger role on a lesser WJC team. That said, Ciernik probably coult have put up 40+ points if he had a goal-scorer to pass to.
9. LD Theo Lindstein - TWD - 6’0 176lbs (L) (SWE) - Brynas IF (SHL) (-6)
6-19-25 -5 6ppp
A relatively disappointing WJC still had him top 10 in D scoring, and still leaves him top 10 in the draft. Might be a bit more of a project, but a solid pick in a draft that’s short on defensemen.
10. C Dalibor Dvorsky - PLY - 5’11 181lbs (L) (SVK) - ZSC Lions (NLA) (75,76,77,78)
9-23-32 -5 8ppp
Put up points on a bad team while having one of the better +/- on Team Slovakia. He and Ciernik aren’t too different, but Dvorsky has a little more fight in him, putting up 21 PIMS to Ciernik’s 6.
Dropped out of top 10:
C Leo Carlsson - PLY - 6’2 185lbs (L) (SWE) - Orebo HK (SHL) (77,78,79)
9. C Adam Fantilli - PLY - 6’2 190lbs (L) (CAN) - Chicago Steel (USHL) (73,74,75)
10. C Brayden Yager - TWF - 6'0 161lbs (R) (CAN) - Moose Jaw Warriors (WHL) (72,73,74,75)
