What's up everyone, how are you? I am well.
Wondering what we think if we made buyouts like the NHL and make them last for double the length of the remaining contract?
Honestly, this comes from me having a ton of cap room and being willing to take guys with massive contracts that have 1 year left. I figure I could make someone pay to give them to me because I can afford to buy them out for the season...
Making it last double the length gives people more insentive to think about the contracts their handing out, and taking on bad contracts in a cap dump. It also gives people with cap space the opportunity to get more value out of taking on a bad contract (right now, someone can easily just buyout a 1 year contract instead of giving up even a 2nd round pick).
Of course, people can put the player into the minors, but the cap hit is more for shorter term.
Would love to hear people's thoughts

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. 🤔🤷
Again, for me this comes down to the fact that there is no CBA cuz this is a sim league, not real life. A lot of things the CBA provides are not needed, nor warranted, in a sim league environment.

i think for the longest time the buyout/waiver rules havent really changed in sim leagues, while many other things have. I think some people who like the realistic aspect of sim leagues might like making waivers/buyout rules more like real life. But its also one of those things that would make it "harder", and some people might not like that part of it. Personally i'd be okay either way, but i feel like a majority of people probably want to keep it what we have right now because it's simpler. Maybe this is something we consider for the next era; for this era we started out with the real life buyouts, so i dont think it would be too much of an adjustment.

Agreed with Sharks. I would probably vote for it, but fine either way. You'd probably see more guys just sent to the minors though

the problem is that the league has too many upgrades and over inflated contracts. dont get me wrong i love upgrades but too much money being forced to be spent. every year it gets worse so if we added more years of salary commitment then theres really no way the league can survive. as it is we have 86s that should easily make a teams 2nd line being passed over on waivers and next to no interest on really good players in free agency. next era we really need to address these things.
