Dallas is looking at changing from a rebuilding team (like they have been this whole league) to a playoff team, while still developing some a prospects (levis, hague) zito has not played an nhl game yet and would be playing 4th line with Dallas. They would rather bring in hischier to round out their top 6 to maximize the development of levis and hague. Nordqvist has not developed in Dallas as I was hoping, only getting +4 between the last 2 years, they would rather bring in a proven defender in maatta. Sale will not get a chance to develop in Dallas.
CBJ is getting old. They are moving out some talent to bring in some young blood. Hopefully pairing these young guys with the offensive power CBJ has will maximize their development so as some of the old guys start to downgrade, these new young guys will rise to take their place.
General breakdown:
Zito + Gunler = Hischier with retention.
Nordqvist + Sale = Maatta + TOR 1st + CBJ 4th. A bit more value on the maatta side. 2nd team wins by a little as it should be in a self trade. Win win for both teams. Should push Dallas to be a playoff team while (besides doughty) staying young. CBJ remains competitive and gets some young guys to develop.
