Folks retaining salaries is getting too rampant and too ridiculous when folks are paying half salaries on $1M to $2M.
I'd suggest not allowing contracts under $3M to be retained at all or only up to 25% retention on contracts under $3M cuz folks are abusing it to the extent that something needs to be done about it.
Thanks.

That would be the dumbest rule to implement. If I was a rebuilding team and could get assets for retaining on a contract then I'll do it. It happens irl all the time (Leafs three way trade with Chicago and Las Vegas for example).

I don't see the point of that. Last I saw people were upset about retaining too much and now upset about too little? It is a very normal thing for salary to be retained, personally I don't see an issue with it

Seriously, this is ridiculous. There’s a rule already about how many you can retain at a time, plus the cap. You’re acting like rich teams are getting away with an advantage. This is a non issue I think

Retainments are/should be for players with awful contracts, not something you can easily fix with a simple body swap.

How many we get isn't the point, paying half of a $1.2M is what's ridiculous.

Like Carolina Hurricanes GM said there’s a rule. Don’t see any problem with people paying just don’t like when a 91 is signed long term and the gm is willing to pay half his salary for the whole term etc

I really don’t understand your point at all. So what? They only get 3. They want to waste them on .500k and etc, let them. They won’t be able to move out bigger contracts then.
There seems to a want to force personal managing philosophies on GMs. YOU think it’s wise to save retentions for large contracts, and that can be debated and hashed out through siming , and bull shitting on the boards, but to add a new rule that only large contracts can be retained is lame

That’s why I think this is a weird argument. If anything, it seems like there’d be more support behind a cap on how LONG you can retain. Because that wasn’t stated when I tried my trades, but that rule makes sense.

None, but I don’t give a shit. Bring this up when the league has a bunch of 80 players playing for 600k, but it’s not going to happen. MTL having Jankowski for 600k doesn’t matter to me at all.

No, of course not cuz then you'd have to agree with nearly everyone else that your Doughty trade was shit. 😂😂

That’s when a rule should’ve been proposed about a cap on how long retentions can be. But instead you’re bitching about Jankowski for 600k? Who gives a damn?
