To LD Ryan Suter DFD 87 (35) 7.538 UFA 2025, NYI retains 2M -> 2025; VGK retains 1M -> 2025 LD Dennis Cholowski TWD 80 (22) - 0.894M RFA 2021 CGY 2021 2ND To LD Noah Hanifin TWD 85 (23) - 4.95M UFA 2024 Calgary will then play Giordano first pair and Suter 2nd pair and have Cholowski as his young guy to develop. He wants to make a cup run here and can use a more defensive option, whereas I want a more mobile defenseman. Cholowski has been simming well and is due for a solid performance upgrade so I think this balances out. If this doesn't help him get better, I'm giving him back his 2021 2nd as insurance and as a boost to help the trade get accepted. Overall I think this works out for both sides, and I may be giving up a bit more but I value Hanifin enough to do so.

I accept. Short-term upgrade on D, another young LD in my system, and I'm not pick less in this years draft.

Oh we’re actually letting this through. Isn’t Calgary still a newbie?
This is a bad deal for Calgary through and through. They get a terrible contract that will hurt them for years. Suter’s terrible contract has a worse affect on the deal than anything else included in the deal going Calgary’s way.

Let's be honest, you all know I'll probably trade for Suter and Weber as I always tend to do... lol
Too bad Hamhuis retired..

He’s been at rockem since the beginning and the Suter contract isn’t as bad since 2 teams are paying but hopefully flames realizes how downgrades work here

Suter is an 87 getting 4.5 and he's a stud. Cholowski is a solid young player to develop. Its a fair deal imo.

For the record I hate this trade but its not enough for me to Reject though I can't just let this through without saying my view.
Hanifin is a stud and basically needs to get 20 blks or less in the remaining part of the season to miss out on +3 - think its safe to say he will be 87 & 24 years old next season.
Cholowski is having a year no doubt, and cant see him missing the +3 upgrade since he is already gone off - making him 83 23 year old next season
Suter is garbage though and is only a depreciating asset which is why he was worth straight up for C Robby Fabbri SNP 81 (24) - 2.95M UFA 2022 in the DET/VGK trade - Grewe is the compensation for the longterm retention by VGK.
Suter is on pace to receive -4 this offseason making him 83 and is due for auto -1 next year without regards to performance, then will be subject to auto -2 the following 3 seasons until his contract is up. We are looking at Suter being 76 by the time his contract is done and that has nothing to do with potential performance downgrades.
4.5M or not, this is a rough deal for CGY to take on especially when there are currently 11 teams in front of them in the WEST Standings. Sure they can turn it around but why give up a stud like Hanifin for Cholowski when you already have a young LD Olli Juolevi TWD 79 (22) - 0.863M RFA 2021 -> 1.25M RFA 2022 who has comparable value and is not even getting ice time. CGY should be setting his team up for the looming Gaudreau extension, not taking more unnecessary cap on a extremely depreciating asset when he already has substitutes fulfilling the role of the up and coming Cholowski that are just rotting in the minors.
Basically this trade is a 2nd + Cholowski for Hanifin and that doesnt seem fair to me, then add in 4.5M dead weight Suter and it seems really unfair and maybe its just cause CGY is unfamiliar with downgrades here but this could really hurt his franchise especially when he could actually capitalize on Hanifin value this offseason if he actually wants to move him.

Seeing what Minny posted I would change my accept to a reject but I won’t go back on my word. So sucks for Flames so unless wings is a good guy and backs out flames is screwed lol

Why would Suter downgrade so much when he's been fine? Was +15 at Vegas, only problem with my team was that I had a couple key pieces injured and my lines got messed up but once that was resolved I started winning again. I don't think Suter should be downgraded more than a couple overall max this offseason, and that's the logic I was using when making the trade

For instance, Merzlinkins went from a 0.914 to a 0.889 because of my injuries and bad simming for one month. Does that mean he's a terrible player that wasn't playing well the rest of the season? No, it just means I had one bad month.
