The league will be moving forward on YouTube.
We will continue to use this forum for rosters and transactions and there is a sister site currently being built that will be the HUB for all things related to HLS.
There will be NO RESULTS, STATS or STANDINGS posted anymore. It will all be via YouTube.
This will allow all GMs to have complete access to what I see and what I do as simmer/editor, while saving time and allowing us to adapt in areas we were limited before.
Significant games (Finals, All-Star Series & more) will be simmed in "True Broadcast" mode so GMs can watch their team and their players perform on ice in pure 1080p.
As of right now, the pace of sims for this ERA will remain 1 week per sim, however that may change come next ERA if we include 'True Broadcast" sim each day.
This site will no longer be a free service.
There will be a subscription that will be fair and will pay out to the winner each season. (GMs would receive money back if I am a GM and win)
Would like to have a league wide discussion to decide what everyone deems fair for what they are paying out and receiving as winners.
It will all be via e-transfer to avoid third party registration.
Since this site will be monetized, there will be a first come first serve basis for the next ERA REBOOT, and there will be incentives for those who step up as staff and contribute consistently. Hoping ALL OF YOU can be apart of this.
We will more than likely finish this era off to season 10 to gain traction on YouTube, and get subscribers to make the league full for REBOOT, however vote now for what you'd like to do. Regardless, the subscription will take effect immediately either beginning of Season 9 (if we continue this era) or beginning for the Reboot (if we vote to reset)
This is a new avenue for us here at HLS and I am committing a lot of time, effort & cash to make this a success, so lets fucking do this right.
I have been in contact with two friends of mine who make their living on YouTube, so with their advice and future shoutouts, we should be able to gain traction before the real NHL resumes.
More changes will be announced once they become finalized.
Discuss it all here!
Thanks.

Yes unfortunately I’ll probably be one of the guys to leave. Considering the hard core budget I’ve put myself on (I don’t even pay for music or Netflix) it’ll be hard for me to justify to myself why I would pay.
That’s no diss to you either, you deserve to be paid for sure cause you’ve put a shit ton of work into this but I don’t think I’ll be apart of the future of this league.

I don't like the idea of no box scores. Hopefully it would be easy for us to see box scores on this youtube idea or I would be out myself. I have no problem with fees depending on what is expected. I would love to see a test run for season 9 before we start paying fees so we actually have an idea of what we are paying for with all of these changes.

Everything remains the same except there won't be box score, stats/standings posts made. You will be able to see it all via YouTube, including shots on goal and penalties each game. There has been 19 seasons worth of test runs here so Season 8 will conclude without subscription but everything else will continue subscription based. There is a sim happening right now and you will be able to see how it will work once its posted.

I get its work, which is why I stopped doing it, but I didn't want to be paid nor do I want to pay. That's just me I guess.

What happens if we dwindle down to a handful of GM's only? Let's say there's only 5 GM's?
Even currently, we're at about 12-13 of us. In a sense it makes winning money easier but activity will be low if there's low numbers.

I’ve cut out practically every form of entertainment that isn’t free out of my life, wouldn’t make sense for me to make an exception now. Every penny counts when you’re trying to save for a house in the GTA lmao.

If I win depending on how much it is to be a member I’ll probably just pay my next seasons fee and then donate the rest back to the league so everyone’s membership is cheaper

I’m saving for a house too Working for the family business that I’ll eventually take over haha. Being 22 and trying to buy a house on my own though is expensive. A townhouse in a sketchy area is now going for around 500k (with cheap maintenance fees) in Brampton. Prices are ridiculous. Really hoping for a drop in the next couple of months.

What happens if we dwindle down to a handful of GM's only? Let's say there's only 5 GM's? Even currently, we're at about 12-13 of us. In a sense it makes winning money easier but activity will be low if there's low numbers. Don't expect that to happen, I have purchased advertising on google that will start once the sister site is live and we will be getting shoutouts and links out for the channel/forum from my friends with successful YouTube channels. Expecting the law of averages to work out in our favour considering Google ads and my friends subscribers add up to 7.68M..we only need 31 GMs. It is all about utilizing the right platform that will catalyze us. Really hate to see anyone leave cause of a couple bucks but I am more than confident that this league will be full, if not having people bidding for last spots. If we set it up right, one Stanley Cup win should pay for a year or two of subscriptions, meaning those dynasty teams are going to be paying towards real life bills/expenses. Also, anyone that is tight for finances right now should really consider an alternative way to contribute to the activity of this site. The main goal here is to gain enough online traction so that we have an audience obsessed as we are when it comes to a hockey sim league. Now that is optimistic for sure, yet consistency is the key to success and we will be the most consistent content creating sim league out there, like we have been the last 20 seasons. Its all about taking the passion and applying it to a larger, more suitable platform. Imagine if the community grows to 40 people, than 400, than 4000..the fact is it is an opportunity that we should have steered this league in long ago, better late than never.
